NO MORE ENCAMPMENT HERE - AFTER 2 YEARS OF UNBELIEVABLE TRASH!
VCC VOLUNTEERS: Danny, Amanda, Kathie, Todd, Cash and myself
We were so excited to see that an encampment that has made this area just so incredibly dirty - filled with trash and filth - was cleaned up by the city - not completely but mostly. We finished it off and detailed the area - down the hillside there was another burned out encampment that was melted together - tent, mattress - clothes - so we got what we could and made it so much cleaner - but got a microwave out of here and 15 bags of trash!
The others worked the west side of the tracks which is always bad - they pulled out so much cardboard and steel - could not get the mattress out which is still there - but got 15 bags of trash from this side.
We worked our way up Mason to Plummer collecting trash and clearing a clogged storm drain - found a huge plywood panel stuck in it that was clogging up the drain from taking in any water - we pulled that out and got 3 bags of litter from it as well.
Worked our way back to the cars and got another 3 bags - thank you Don for being able to pick this all up for us. Mark met us at the cars and took a group picture... then to coffee at Starbuck's.
Great morning with only a few people - 36 bags of trash!
REGULAR CLEAN UP AREA FOR LARGER GROUPS...
VCC VOLUNTEERS: Dwight, Danny, Stori, Scott, Kathy, Amanda, Ann, Sarah, Sharon, Mary, Steve Lee, Steve Hirshberg, Lori, Patti, Jack and myself.
We always work the on and off ramps in this area because they are usually filled with trash - beer bottles, liquor bottles, car parts, tires, food cups, etc. Then we clean the cul de sac which is an illegal dumping site for trucks - and we clean down DeSoto as far was we can go in the 2 hours.
The illegal dumping was unbelievable - a truckload of clothes - like somebody emptied their entire attic!
We got 37 bags of trash just from this area... 7 bags of trash up Brown's Canyon (where we had to leave 3 gallons of automotive oil and cat food bags) 7 bags of trash from the off ramp of DeSoto and 15 bags of trash on the on ramp heading east on DeSoto.
69 bags of trash! That is ridiculous! Such a horrible intersection of illegal dumping - throwing trash from the windows of cars and automobile accident debris.
Thank you all for such a great day at getting this area clean and to Don who will be picking up the debris on Thursday and getting it off the streets! This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.
Articles – Good topics for articles include anything related to your company – recent changes to operations, the latest company softball game – or the industry you’re in. General business trends (think national and even international) are great article fodder, too.
Mission statements – You can tell a lot about a company by its mission statement. Don’t have one? Now might be a good time to create one and post it here. A good mission statement tells you what drives a company to do what it does.
Company policies – Are there company policies that are particularly important to your business? Perhaps your unlimited paternity/maternity leave policy has endeared you to employees across the company. This is a good place to talk about that.
Executive profiles – A company is only as strong as its executive leadership. This is a good place to show off who’s occupying the corner offices. Write a nice bio about each executive that includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
WHAT A MESS THIS AREA IS!
Today was a big crowd because it was DWIGHT'S 90th BIRTHDAY today and a celebration!
VCC VOLUNTEERS: Cash, Dwight, Margaret, Georgia and Steve Altmayer, Cecelia, Nancy, Sharon, Danny, Kathie, Ann, Sarah, Kim, Marge King and Dennis Dreier (new volunteers), Scott, Lori and myself. Amanda, Dale, Emilie and Frank Koster, Steve and Tim Hebert came to the after party at Games & Grounds for cake and celebration!
16 volunteers for the litter removal!
Cash. Cecelia, Sharon, Lori and myself worked the fence line near the LA River... but refused to work the SKID ROW OF CHATSWORTH area where it is just piled with dump sites, homeless and unhealthy food, feces and urine bottles. We worked the entire length of the train station and the ice plant at the mobile home park across the street on Lassen and back - 16 bags of trash! Great job.
Georgia and Steve worked the opposite fence line by the tracks and got 5 bags of trash and some big things that were discarded.
One other team worked west on Devonshire (5 bags of trash) - another team worked east on Devonshire (10 bags of trash) and another team worked the bike path and Canoga south of Devonshire (6 bags of trash).
42 bags of debris off the streets... it got HOT TODAY... so was anxious to get to G&G for some water and coffee. Thank you Don for picking up the bags we had to leave on the street and at the station... we appreciate it!
We got Efrem, our Senior Lead Officer, to say hello and thank us as he patrolled the train station this morning. And many more people were very happy to see us do this clean up.
Fun day - great people - good exercise - memorable celebration Dwight's 90th birthday - and we made a huge difference in the look of the train station and area.
A CO-OP EVENT WITH THE NORTH VALLEY REGIONAL CHAMBER AND VCC.
WOW - WHAT A TURN OUT! 29 Volunteers!
VCC VOLUNTEERS: Cash, Rosanna, Susan, Robert Newman, Norlene, Amanda, Colleen and husband Tim,Georgia and husband Steve, Steve Graves, Adele and myself
.
NEW VOLUNTEERS: David Goldstein, Marsha Salazar, Mario and family plus friends (7), Reenie, Christina Soffin and her family and friends (7) - Jonathan, Alexander, Jacob and Gracie - a friend Gabriel and Charley..
We decided this would be a fun event to get the Chamber and community members out to do something meaningful and in their jurisdiction. VCC provides all the equipment - we just need the community to come out and provide the man power. Disappointed and unfortunately, there was no one - other than Coleen, Don and myself who are VCC volunteers already - showed up for the event from the board.
There were 5 sections: Devonshire to Lassen / Lassen to Plummer / Plummer to Nordhoff / Nordhoff to Parthenia / Pathenia to Roscoe. The teams were divided to cover these sections on both sides in the 2 hours.
Some groups had to drive - 2 groups to Lassen to start - 1 group to Rosce to start.
RESULTS:
Devonshire to Lassen group got 8 bags, 2 huge rugs, a cabinet and a wood box. The Lassen to Plummer group got 4 bags. The Plummer to Nordhoff group got 8 bags. The Nordhoff to Parthenia group got 5 bags. The Parthenia to Roscoe group got 9 bags.
34 bags of trash off this one street in 2 hours... it was a fun day with lots of great comments from the cars and walkers. Coffee at Starbucks afterwards - and Don Larson picked up all the bags for us and discarded... this is his street so he was anxious to get it cleaned up!
Everyone commented that they had no idea there was so much trash on the street because you cannot see it when you are driving by. We also remove all the unsightly signs from the poles which makes a huge difference in the look of the street. Everyone will be back to earn their vest at 5 clean ups.REGULAR CLEAN UP AREA FOR LARGER GROUPS...
