Effective Date: January 1, 2026
Volunteers Cleaning Communities ("VCC," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information in connection with VCC programs, services, communications, and the VCC mobile app, listed in App Store Connect as VCC Cleanup Browser.
VCC operates community cleanup programs and related services. The VCC app helps volunteers and cleanup leaders view, review, and manage community cleanup events.
Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with VCC or use the app, we may collect or process the following information:
- Account and profile information, such as your name, email address, phone number, emergency phone number, user role, and authentication information used to maintain account access, such as secure password verification data and session tokens.
- Cleanup event information, such as cleanup dates, meeting locations, descriptions, partner information, coffee locations, cleanup status, and leader workflow information.
- Volunteer and participation information, such as cleanup assignments, roster status, sign-in or attendance-related records, cleanup administration actions, liability release or consent status, adult/minor status, guardian information when required, and email consent preferences.
- App and server activity information, such as login activity, app requests, error logs, device type, operating system version, and basic diagnostic information used to operate and troubleshoot the service.
- Limited offline activity information, when needed to temporarily queue cleanup participation records on your device until they can be submitted to VCC servers.
- Camera access, if you use scanner features in the app. Camera access is used to scan cleanup-related codes. The app does not use camera access for photographs, advertising, or tracking.
- Event photographs. Before, during, and after a cleanup, VCC may take photographs of cleanup locations and cleanup activities outside the app, and those photographs may include participating VCC members.
The app records cleanup event assembly locations, post-cleanup meeting locations, and related cleanup locations, and provides those locations to cleanup participants through the app. The app does not track volunteer device location. Attendance records are associated with cleanup events and meeting locations for safety during the cleanup, participation rewards after the cleanup, and organizational metrics.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide access to cleanup event information.
- Support volunteer and cleanup leader workflows.
- Contact volunteers during cleanups and notify volunteer emergency contacts in the unlikely event that is needed.
- Review, schedule, start, complete, and repeat cleanup events.
- Maintain account access and app security.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and improve the app and VCC services.
- Communicate with volunteers or cleanup leaders about cleanup activities when appropriate.
- Reward volunteers for increasing their cleanup participation.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information only as needed to:
- Operate VCC services and databases.
- Allow authorized VCC leaders and administrators to view volunteer, roster, attendance, contact, and cleanup information needed to operate cleanup programs.
- Work with service providers who help host, maintain, or secure the app and server.

- Communicate with volunteers regarding VCC accomplishments and planned future activities.
Service providers are expected to use information only for the services they provide to VCC.
Tracking and Advertising
VCC does not use third-party advertising in the VCC app, and the app is not intended to track users across apps or websites for advertising purposes. VCC newsletters or communications sent to VCC members may recognize companies or individuals that have provided monetary support to VCC.
Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to operate VCC cleanup programs, maintain records, support volunteers and cleanup leaders, comply with legal obligations, and resolve operational issues. We may retain cleanup event and participation records as part of VCC's nonprofit program records. You may contact VCC to request access, correction, or deletion, subject to records VCC needs to retain for legal, safety, security, or operational purposes.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information. The app communicates with VCC servers using standard HTTPS encryption. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
VCC programs and the VCC Cleanup Browser app are intended for VCC volunteers, cleanup leaders, and authorized participants. VCC focuses on adult volunteers and does not direct the app to children under 13. VCC does support youth participation through established school, church, or similar programs, and parental or guardian consent is required for member individual participation when under 18 years.
Your Choices
You may contact VCC to request help with account information, access questions, or privacy-related requests. Some information may need to be retained for cleanup program records, security, legal compliance, or nonprofit operational purposes.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and publish the revised policy.
